Nonna’s Fig Jam
I can remember my grandparents beloved fig tree growing up. We would pick its juicy fruit and eat right off the tree. So It truly brings me back home when my husbands’ grandparents bring me figs from their tree! This year Nonna made her jam as well! It is so tasty and easy to make, I just had to share!
Fig Jam is so versatile and taste wonderful as a sweet addition to savory bites or just simply on toast with your morning coffee.
Nonna’s jam will stay good in the fridge for about 2 months so I will post some dishes soon that work perfectly with this lovely spread!
Ingredients
- 4 Cups Figs
- 2 Cups Granulated Sugar
- 1/4 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar (or an espresso cup size as she told me 🙂
- 2 Cups Water
Wash figs, remove stems and cut into quarters. Place figs in a pot, pour in sugar, vinegar and water. Mix and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until mixture thickens and becomes sticky. Stir continuously, watching your heat to prevent sugar from burning.
Smash figs with a fork or potato masher to your desired thickness. Nonna’s Jam is a chunkier so if you prefer a smoother jam you can puree in a food processor. Get your jars ready by sterilizing them in boiling water. Carefully spoon your jam into jars and allow to cool.
Bon Appetite,
Christina
